I'm officially off the market. No more objectifying women...publicly. Getting engaged was fun and exciting and my dog looked damn cute with a ring tied to his neck.

I'm quickly realizing that perhaps its better to be a groom that just shows up for the day of the wedding. Weddings in general are a beast but a gay wedding. Googling just got me depressed. I should have realized when there were no results for "affordable weddings in NYC" that probably poor peeps like myself throws in the towel and gets married outside of the city.

Families are fun - those who want to be involved and those who don't! I'm trying to stay focused on the lovey dovey aspects of getting married but its tough when you're a realistic.

Where were all of the lezbeans in DC? Aside from the Georgetown and GW Campus, I didn't see maybe gay ladies when I visited. In fact, I decided to google "Washington DC + Lesbian" and the first few pics were all of dating sites. Clearly, this means there are only virtual lesbians in DC. I tried to look up a couple of places to accidentally end up with my mom on gomag.com but nothing. DuPont circle only gave me Hello Cupcakes, which I appreciated but throw me a gay flag or two. Although I have been told that no one really lives in DC, so maybe all the gay lady places are outside of the city. Bummer.

Stand Up

I've always wanted to be a stand up comedian but never tried. It's the same situation with my idea to create a web show called "The Morning After" to comment on those awkward nights out at the lezzie bar. (See the reason I started this blog & trust me plenty of material) Anyway - the reason stand up came back to me is our talent showcase at work. I'm helping select talent and some of these comedians just started. Convenient side note - I'll be out of town for the showcase, therefore no one is forcing me to participate.

I've convinced myself that my GF laughs at my jokes because she has too. I'm also pretty sure being a comedian would ruin that relationship since she'd probably account for 50% of my material along with my family. Ooops! But they just do the strangest things, according to me.

This blog also much like stand up comedy and failed web series, is something that I wanted to be huge but alas I'm pushing papers instead. Granted I'm keeping myself entertained by making fun of those around me. Side note - this wasn't very funny.

Why haven't more lesbians discovered Koznyc Saturdays? We're always asking for a cleaner, bigger Cubbyhole and here it is. It's at Point Break, the old Nation spot, without the cover. Drinks are strong and bartenders are cool as shit (so says the saying, I myself would assume shit is not cool). The music mix is one the ladies can shake their asses to or watch the asses shaking. I've been a few times and it seems like you NYC lezzies haven't figured out how to avoid the cover at Henrietta's and RF Lounge. Leave your cats and/or other excuses at home and come enjoy the free at the door fun.

I loved, loved the lezzie focused storyline. I liked how the writers explored what role Arizona plays in the babies' life. I also liked the music but I didn't like them together. I feel like they should have just let Sara Ramirez sing or use the cast soundtrack as a soundtrack to the episode. I think the singing got in the way of the usually great story telling of Shonda Rhimes. On a plus side, we have a girl on girl wedding to look forward to at the end of the season. I'm most excited about this given that even my mom will be watching. Maybe that will make gay weddings a little less scary and realistic for her.

I don't understand how you ladies do it! Walking to the subway from my house, I thought my feet were going to fall off. I suppose I had to wear them for the sake of fashion. My little black dress wouldn't look as good with combat boots. I was more than happy to be at the Marriott Marque - sitting down. I loved the segment "Fey on Gay" (image above). Tina Fey commented on everything from Liz Lemon's lezzie footwear to Bert & Ernie. Russell Simmons & Ricky Martin both gave gracious speeches, tho Ricky's was a little sexier. Ricky (Wilson Cruz) serenaded Ricky Martin from the kids section with Jersey Shore Vinny and Liz Lee from My Life As Liz. All in all - a very cool evening. I would have loved to see more lezzie representation. Check out photos I found online here.

Tomorrow, by some stroke of luck, I will be attending the Awards in NYC. GLAAD's 25th Anniversary will be honoring with work of Ricky Martin & Russell Simmons. According to the website, Tina Fey and Jersey Shore Vinny will be there among others...and me! Minus the dressing up part, I'm super excited to see these peeps in the flesh. I will try not to fawn over Tina Fey (at least that's what I'm telling myself). After my feet stop hurting from the heels I'll be wearing, I'll have a full report of the evening. Stay tuned.

Made it home from the gym and with the help of TWC Start Over was able to catch Glee. And thank goodness I did. I mean who really needs DVR anymore with everything online and StartOver?

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that you've finally hit your stride. You're still working out a lot of kinks but I really liked last nights' episode of total messed up high school drama. I don't know if watching UK Skins at the same time has helped me to better understand this version but I finally got that crazy chick had an eating disorder. Thanks Netflix. Now its a big time commitment to watch both shows and we know how I feel about commitment - see below. So far the UK version has been my backwards cliff notes to Skins on MTV. I also think the picture above says a lot about why I am sticking with this series. Tea needs a lady who is a challenge like Tony but without his manly bits.

What does that say about me? In all fairness, I had been saving for this magical ring of "commitment." But puppies are cute, cuddly and something we both can enjoy. Or I'm just easily distracted....hmmmm. Now, my girlfriend/domestic partner/roomie/lovah/whatamacallit are bonded by a 3 month and growing miniature dachshund named Joey. This type of dog has proved difficult in both training and google searching his characteristics....as I have trouble spelling both miniature and dachsund. I could rationalize that I bought us a future ring bearer, complete with doggie farts and accidents all over the apartment. Although those dreams of a super gay wedding, renting a zipcar to Connecticut, being married by someone we found on the internet will just have to be on hold...yet again.

I fell in love with the web series "Anyone But Me" with Nicole Pacent and Rachel Hip-Flores in season one. I especially loved that Pacent was a lesbian...now bi-sexual... in real life. In addition to great acting, let's you believe that this story is more realistic - and she's cute. All us ladies love that. Anyway....straight to the point. I'm not so into season 2. I'm really hoping that it picks up and doesn't feel like the series took a step back. So here's to hoping.

Proposition at Slate accross the street at midnight....much better. Not really sure what happened last night with the club situation but Duvet wasn't prepared for the lezzies and 2-4-1 from 10 to 11. After some finagling (sp?) and standing in the cold, we moved across the street. For about 2 hours at Slate there was a lot of awkward lezzies staring and standing about. Then finally Proposition got all their shit together and put together a packed house in the side room. Not much room to dance but plenty of eye candy.

What did we learn from this? Never go to a lezzie party on the first night...not until they work out all the kinks.

So one would think that being in a big city there would be way more opportunities to meet other lady lovin' ladies. To some extent it is BUT the lezzie world is so small that you always tend to run into the girl you snubbed in the club last month or the girl you made out with on the dance floor but don't quite remember her name or the girl you exchanged drunk texts with. And girls talk so they tell their friends and friends friends....

Now this makes it sounds like I'm a drunken hoe....which is not that case...believe me to some extent I wish it was BUT like all people I have gotten drunk and done stupid things.

So how is a girl supposed to meet new people and expand her friend circle when it seems like everyone you meet knows someone else you know?

It would be nice if the lezzie world was more mainstream and we could meet new people at a bookstore or grocery store like the straight people do....or maybe I'm just going to the wrong bookstores...

Also, there always the awkward situation when you meet a cool lezzie that you want to be friends with...how do you go about saying let's hang out sometime then is it a date or are you just hanging out?

Maybe I should where a sign that says...I'm a normal chill lady that's just lookin' for friends and nothing more?

Loved it!

Hey Ladies!

So last night I caught the Schulyer Fisk show at the Bell House and I must say she's a pretty talented lady. Here music first caught my attention when I heard the song Paperweight with Joshua Radin. Then when researching I learned that she is Sissy Spacek's daughter and she has been in a couple films. She was in Snow Day, The Baby Sitter's Club and I'm Reed Fish to name a few. Her music is similar to: Ingrid Michaelson, Joshua Radin, Jaymay, The Weepies, etc.

Well not only is she talented but she is also really nice and humble. After her set last night (which I wish was longer) she asked everyone to come out to the merch table to say hey and introduce themselves. I bought her CD titles "The Good Life" and gave it a listen last night...I highly reccomend it.

Lezzie Rant on L Word

ok so I watched the 2nd episode last night again with some friends and it's a hot mess. It's like a daytime soap.

Bette and Tina are gonna adopt a kid and are adding a second story to their house. Bette is flirting so Tina gets made.

Helena and Kit are transforming SheBar into HIT (stupid name for a club). Helena sees Dylan at the lezzie bar and at first comes off all calm cool and collected. She shoulda stopped their because she made Dylan fee like a piece of shit which is what she deserved. Then Helena goes nutso runs after her and chews her out so Dylan has the upper hand because she gets Helena to yell at her.

Alice and Tasha are clinging to their relationship and I hope they make it because I think they're cute. They go to counseling...Alice can't shut up...the dr. says they shouldn't be together....then they do it in the parking garage....HOT. Not exactly sure why Tasha closed the dorr to the car when they were gettin' down since the windows were rolled down but hey whatever works.

Jenny and Shane end up makin out and I don't even know what to say about this because they have NO chemistry and it just looks weird.

Max and Tom are preggers....sure Ilene you don't steal stories from the headlines...ummm hmmm

and I'm exhausted just typing all this out. I know lezzies can be dramatic and crazy but this is just tooooo much. I hate to say it but L Word shoulda died after season 5. Don't get me wrong I will still be tuning in each Sunday at 9pm until I have to say goodbye but woah...Ilene you're trying to cram too much into a mini season.

Maybe next week Max will be preggers with Octuplets. We'll see when we tune-in next week as these are the days of L Word.

Every now and again I check my hometown newspaper online - which led me to this story that I've been following for a while. A 15 year old girl shot another girl and classmates claim that Wimberly, the accused, sought a romantic relationship with Collette, the victim, but was rejected. And now her defense is saying that mental health issues played a role in the shooting. If what a bunch of high school kids say is true then as a lady scorn by love/rejection... I can see that. It should be interesting to see how this plays out and how her possibly being gay becomes a factor.

So I started my day right this morning as I do every morning...watching my favorite TODAY show correspondent...JENNA WOLFE. Poor girl seems to get the craziest stories. Today she got the lovely task of talking about how restaurants at menus are written in a way to get you to order the most expensive items. Sounds interesting but get this...the segment was called "The psychology of Eating Out" ...CLASSIC. This just adds even more hopes that she may be one of us!

I guess ever since friendster back in the day - the internet has enabled our innate stalking skills. Facebook has taking it through the roof. I catch myself looking at my best friend in 3rd grades dog pics - and thinking what am I doing? I haven't talked to her since I have 9 - but her dog pics sure can kill 10 minutes.

Then there is the more interesting stalking old girlfriends, new girlfriends, hot friends of friends that could be potential girlfriends and the best is old people from high school that you think might be gay.

I was just watching a promo spot for THE WOMEN where they were showcasing the different characters in the movie. The ladies were all being introduced y their jobs and Jada Pinkett Smith's character is introduced as a lesbian....what!?!?! Since when did being a lesbian become a career? And if it is...where is the compensation and what kind of healthcare plan do we get? Is there a bonus if we induct a newbie? I mean these are the things I would love to know. And I hope that I can get paid ever since '02 when I admitted I was a lesbian. In '04 when I told my parents; I definitely deserve some perks for that one. Someone please let me know where I can apply!
